Boletus rubricitrinus (Murr.) Murr. Cap 4-15cm across, broadly convex; brick red to orange-cinnamon or madder brown with age; subtomentose. Tubes lemon yellow. Pores small; bright yellow, blueing when touched. Stem 50-150 x 15-25mm; mustard yellow, the surface covered with red squamules or floccules. Flesh yellow, deep red in base, blueing when cut. Odor mild. Taste mild. Spores subfusiform, 12.5-18.8 x 4.5-7.5µ. Deposit olive-brown. Habitat under mixed oak and pine. Common in Florida, rare farther north (as far as southern New Jersey). Season May-November. Edibility not known. |
